MIDWIFERY NEEDS TO BE MAINSTREAM (AGAIN)

MIDWIFERY NEEDS TO BE MAINSTREAM (AGAIN)

IMG_6065

Growing up, I was an only child raised by a single mom. I didn’t know anything about birth or pregnancy, I didn’t grow up with kids or babies. In fact, pregnant women intimidated me for a long time – they just had so much ENERGY.

The idea that they were carrying another human being inside of them just fascinated me.

As I got older, I started reading a lot about our food system and how it prioritizes quantity over quality. I got a job in a health food store, where my world expanded to learn about holistic health.

A chain of events led me to midwifery school, and I got to see up close that ENERGY that was so palpable to me as a kid.

But now, instead of being intimidated, I was motivated to serve them in this new way.

THE SYSTEM NEEDS HEALING

THE SYSTEM NEEDS HEALING

I’m going to tell you straight- If you are relying on the maternity system, then you aren’t not getting your needs completely met.  Your doctor would probably like to know you, but insurance dictates how long they can spend with you.  They aren’t giving you all the information needed for informed decisions or are able to answer your questions.

Seeing how broken this system really is made me even more determined to make midwifery care mainstream. With 12 years of working with pregnant women, and 8 years as a practicing midwife, I’ve seen how a holistic approach can make all the difference: You’re showing up as a good parent because you’re happy, you’re confident, you’re getting what you need. And you have support, and you’re making better decisions because of it.

TESTIMONIAL

circles (6)
I love that it (midwifery) brings me closer to my body. It puts me sync and in-tune with what's going on.
I love that it's a very personal process and it's per client and per midwife. There's that very distinct connection and everyone is going to be different.

MIDWIFERY IS MY PASSION

MIDWIFERY IS MY PASSION

I’ve been a midwife since 2014 and have helped over 200 women during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.  My practice has always been different because I see my clients throughout the first year postpartum, which adds an extra layer of support.  I’ve been there to celebrate the excitement, joys, and many birth-days.  I’ve also been there to lean on when things are harder, unplanned, and through the many changes that happen.

I’ve been there to support relationships, unexpected outcomes, and times when postpartum anxiety or depression flare-up.

I believe in a midwife model of care, where women are fully listened to, and their provider gets to know them as a person, beyond the numbers on a chart. Where they have continuity of care throughout pregnancy, birth and postpartum.  This is how I show up as a midwife.
